Spontaneous Mirror Concussion

People may have heard about Spontaneous Human Combustion.  But no one has every heard of Spontaneous Mirror Concussion--until today.

Today, my younger today reported, for the first time in recorded human history, that a mirror on the passenger side of her car  "fell off the car on its own."  Although the extensively damaged mirror has been successfully recovered, the cause behind the Spontaneous Mirror Concussion remains a mystery. One explanation, provided by her who happened to be at the scene at the time, is that "a mailbox* jumped into the car (she was driving at the time)."  I have asked her to submit her claim to Ripley's Believe It or Not. 

* Luckily, the mail box is not damaged and now looks in perfect health. 

色は匂へど

　　民国时期的人物中我有两个比较喜欢：李叔同与苏曼殊。李叔同的出家经历很是让人惊奇，正如曼殊上人用文言翻译的Byron的诗歌一般。记得叔同圆寂前似有预感，反复书写“枝头春满，天心月圆”八字。

　　上周从纽约回到家，看到家前草坪上的樱花开满了枝头，不由想起了李叔同的偈语。这枝樱花就是门前那颗树上的。

色は匂へど，散りぬるを　

　　当樱花盛开之时，便是其凋谢之时。日本家诸户晓的いろは禅诗写得也是人生中无法回避的凄凉美景。这首诗的妙处在于全诗用全日语５０音，一音不多一音不少，每音一次。第一次读到它及中译文，是在８０年代。估计是中文译得很上口，读后竟没有忘记多少。歌曰

花儿虽美，

总有花落时，

在这人世间，

谁能常在。

只有超越了

有为的深山，

才能 既无迷梦，

也无烦恼

今天一个朋友转来一段有趣的新闻。是关于台湾一只因受惠于寺院，竟会发声念“阿弥陀佛”的斑文鸟。人生的终结本是悲剧性的，正如樱花谢地一般。但因为有了这类不可思异的奇迹，人生本无望的黑暗中便有了几丝亮光。它们启示着我们，或许更大的奇迹，存在于我们世界之外或人生的终结之后。
