The cold rain last night may very well be--or at least so wished by many--the last one in Winter. Overnight, and throughout the day, snow piles along the streets that had menaced pedestrians and cars for weeks were melting, and the filthy water accumulated in the web of potholes that sprawl across Manhattan, was gradually disappearing.
Is this the long-waited the sign of Spring? Possibly. The streets, however, are still as chaotic as ever: littered, muddy and messy. And the homeless, although fewer by the number, are still dire and helpless.
